Advancing robotics and AI innovation

by Simon Foulds

Europe’s leading robotics forum arrives in Birmingham, uniting experts to advance automation, AI, and digital construction innovation.

The European Robotics Forum 2027 will take place at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre (ICC) in March 2027, bringing together over 1,000 research and industry experts from across Europe. Recognised as a key platform for robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation, the forum will facilitate collaboration, knowledge exchange, and commercial partnerships across sectors including digital construction, advanced manufacturing, and smart infrastructure.

Since its inception in 2010, ERF has been hosted in major European innovation hubs, reinforcing its role as a driver of technological progress. Hosting the event in Birmingham positions the UK at the centre of discussions around robotics in construction, AI-driven engineering, and automation in the built environment.

A hub for robotics and advanced manufacturing

Birmingham offers a strong foundation for discussions on robotics in digital construction. The West Midlands combines industrial heritage with modern innovation ecosystems, including advanced manufacturing facilities, robotics laboratories, and AI deployment centres. The region supports the integration of robotics in construction processes, including offsite manufacturing, digital twins, and automated site operations.

The event will be organised by Manufacturing Technology Centre and the University of Birmingham, in partnership with euRobotics. This collaboration reflects the convergence of academic research, industry application, and policy development essential to scaling robotics in the construction sector.

Robotics, AI and automation

The European Robotics Forum 2027 will explore how robotics and AI are transforming digital construction workflows. Key themes are expected to include autonomous construction equipment, robotic fabrication, AI-enabled project management, and data-driven asset lifecycle management. These technologies are central to improving productivity, safety, and sustainability across the built environment.

As digital construction continues to evolve, robotics plays a critical role in addressing labour shortages, enhancing precision engineering, and enabling scalable infrastructure delivery. ERF 2027 will provide a platform for showcasing real-world applications and emerging innovations that are shaping the future of construction technology.

European Robotics Forum 2027 positions Birmingham at the centre of robotics, AI, and digital construction, driving collaboration, investment, and innovation across Europe’s built environment and advanced manufacturing sectors.
