Consultancy firm AESG has made a trio of senior appointments as it seeks to further boost its impact in the UK’s built environment sector.
Elisabeth Montgomerie has joined the business as sustainability director. Amy Koerbel is AESG’s new director of façades, while Sandra Rubiano joins her as associate director of façades.
An expert in decarbonisation, biodiversity and social value, Montgomerie’s most recent role was with a global multidisciplinary consultancy where she was sustainability lead and associate director for sustainable building design.
During her time there, she led the upskilling of more than 1,200 team members in sustainability practices, and developed and executed sustainability strategies for landmark building projects in the UK, Middle East and Africa.
Koerbel has over 25 years of experience in architectural engineering, technical design and strategic leadership. She will spearhead AESG’s façade consulting services in the UK and beyond, with a particular focus on forward-thinking sustainable solutions for retrofits and new build construction projects.
Her previous roles, including head of façades and architecture and design practice director at AECOM – demonstrate her strong track record in leading technical and multidisciplinary teams in delivering award-winning projects.
Her knowledge and skills are expected to enhance AESG’s capabilities in tackling complex façade projects while contributing to the firm’s growth in the key markets.
With experience at engineering agency Clarkebond, and as senior façade engineer for CBRE, Rubiano brings invaluable expertise to enhance AESG’s integrated services for its clients in the UK façade remediation market.
Alongside this, she will lead the development of cutting-edge façade engineering solutions, overseeing the successful delivery of AESG’s façade projects to best practice standards, inspiring innovation from within the team.
Saeed Al Abbar, chief executive at AESG, said: “In line with the UK government’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, we have made a conscious decision to scale up and enhance our existing provision of sustainability consultancy and building design and engineering expertise in the UK to support existing and future clients better.
“Adding these three remarkable individuals to our team demonstrates the level of conviction behind that choice as they will add an immeasurable amount of gravitas to our offering.
“Our mission at AESG is to pair technical knowledge with practical experience to deliver best-in-class consultancy and solutions to our prestigious clients and make a tangible difference to their sustainability strategies. Collectively, Elisabeth, Amy and Sandra bring a new level of excellence to our business, and their passion to continue driving change in the industry makes them an ideal fit for AESG.”
Unwavering commitment
Montgomerie said: “AESG has an unwavering commitment to sustainability and an exceptional calibre of employees. I believe my experience in leading teams of sustainability experts and developing transformation tools will be instrumental in showcasing AESG’s role in that movement.
“As director of sustainability, my objective is to establish AESG as a leader in the UK’s sustainable construction market, which offers significant opportunities for growth as environmental responsibility becomes a central focus across all sectors.
“AESG is in a prime position to lead the way in delivering high-quality consultancy and design, and as we continue to expand, we will help shape the future of building practices to make a lasting impact in the UK market.
“Being part of a company that is deeply passionate about sustainability is incredibly inspiring, and I look forward to making a meaningful impact on AESG and the wider industry.”
Koerbel added: “AESG is dedicated to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions to complex challenges. Not only does it value technical excellence and multidisciplinary thinking, but it also prioritises making a meaningful impact on the built environment, which is very important to me.
“With my technical background in architectural, structural and façade engineering, I’ve always embraced a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to solving challenges – key values AESG shares.
“In addition to my technical expertise, I’ve had the opportunity to take on significant leadership and management roles, which have been instrumental in shaping how I approach team building and stakeholder engagement, and in delivering results that align with both client aspirations and company objectives. These experiences will be invaluable as I work to grow AESG’s façade engineering presence in the UK.
“With heightened regulatory requirements and an industry-wide push for sustainable building solutions, it’s an exciting opportunity to contribute to AESG’s vision and help shape the future of façade engineering.”
