Bouygues UK has been awarded a rebuilding programme at Holy Trinity CofE Secondary School in Crawley, West Sussex, under the government’s School Rebuilding Programme.
The scheme targets schools with buildings identified as being in the poorest condition nationally. Works are due to start this month and complete in late 2029, delivered on a live site while the school continues to operate throughout.
Holy Trinity currently educates around 1,410 students, including 300 in the sixth form. The transformation will expand capacity to 1,500 students, supporting the local authority’s plans to permanently increase the school’s Published Admission Number to an eight-form entry.
The programme includes a new three-storey building of approximately 9,300 sq metres to the south of the existing campus, into which the school will decant before the existing buildings are demolished. The Young Building, around 1,500 sq metres of existing space, will be refurbished and handed back to the school.
Other elements include five multi-use games areas, a new landscaped recreation area and a dedicated school car park. The new building’s departmental layout includes an assembly hall with bleacher seating and a performance lighting rig, a sixth-form social and study hub, a library resource centre, and specialist facilities including a darkroom, kiln and ceramic studio.
The new building is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification, supported by roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels and a ground-source heat pump, alongside passive ventilation via wind catchers on the upper floor.
