AtkinsRéalis has appointed Darren Martin to the newly created position of chief digital officer.
Martin will be responsible for building on the professional services and project management company’s global digital strategy to transform its core business, and offer new digital services to customers.
He has extensive experience in technology leadership roles and has a strong track record of driving digital transformation in AtkinsRéalis’ focus areas including infrastructure and energy systems.
Philip Hoare, president of engineering services at AtkinsRéalis, said: “Over the last few years we have been implementing a digital strategy that better connects people, data and technology to create cutting-edge solutions that offer increased predictability and certainty for our clients.
“The appointment of a chief digital officer is a central part of how we build on this progress at scale, and create a digital environment for all of our projects, maximising the value of data and embedding the use of technology and solutions to maximise whole-life asset value, improve commercial performance, achieve sustainability goals, and reduce environmental impact of our projects as we seek to engineer a better future for our planet and its people.”
Martin joins the company from McKinsey, where he was chief technology officer (CTO) for the firm’s Capital Excellence – Operations practice. Previously, he was CTO at engineering and construction consultancy Wood PLC, and head of digital solutions for Jacobs, as well as holding leadership positions at DXC Technology, and the UK Home Office.
Hoare added: “Darren will ensure we continue to connect people and projects to data and technology and enhance our global capabilities with the latest tools, processes and skills. With a background in artificial intelligence, software development and big data, Darren brings a wealth of experience as we embed our digital approach across AtkinsRéalis.”
