Architectural practice Hyphen has grown its Mumbai office to 10 architectural professionals in five months, with a further 50% increase planned by year-end.

The Mumbai team is led by Bhavna Muttreja Jain, head of Mumbai at Hyphen, an architect with more than 17 years’ international experience across India, Malaysia, Canada and the United States. She has worked on residential, commercial, hospitality, mixed-use and healthcare projects, is a LEED Green Associate and serves as regional lead for Women in BIM India.

In 2025 she received the Real Woman Award and the NAREDCO MAHI “Empower Her Excellence Award” for her contributions to the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry and to gender equity in the built environment.

According to Hyphen, the Mumbai team is undertaking professional development programmes intended to align staff with the firm’s processes, building information modelling (BIM) standards and quality assurance procedures. The office is intended to support the practice’s clients across Europe, Australia, Latin America and other markets, and to give Hyphen a base for further expansion across India and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Muttreja Jain said: “The growth of our Mumbai team demonstrates both the strength of the talent available in India and Hyphen’s commitment to investing in people and long-term capability. From day one, our focus has been on building a high-quality team that shares the same architectural standards, collaborative culture and client-first approach that defines Hyphen.

“We’re building an integrated international team where colleagues collaborate seamlessly across borders, bringing together diverse expertise and perspectives to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.”

Eva Diego, chief executive of Hyphen, said: “India represents an important step in our international growth strategy. Our expansion into Latin America marked the important first step; India now adds the missing piece in the puzzle, providing a strong platform for growth across the Asia Pacific region. The success of the Mumbai team in such a short period reflects both the calibre of the professionals we’ve recruited and the significant opportunities we see for the future.

“Our investment in Mumbai is about strengthening our capability, advising our clients and creating opportunities for talented architectural professionals to develop within a truly international practice. As we continue to grow, maintaining technical excellence and design quality remains our absolute priority.”

Hyphen said further recruitment is planned in Mumbai over the coming months.
