Mott MacDonald has appointed John Macaulay as its transport lead for Western Australia.

Based in Perth, Macaulay’s focus is on growing the company’s business and increasing its involvement in major transportation projects in the West.

Previously AECOM group director for Western Australia, Macaulay is said to bring strategic and values-driven leadership, and a proven track record from over 30 years of consultancy experience in Australia, the UK, the Middle East and Turkey.

He is regarded as passionate about driving strong organisational culture as a foundation for high performing teams, service excellence, and business performance.

Frances Badelow, managing director of Mott MacDonald in Australia, said: “We are delighted to welcome John to this new role. We are energised by John’s arrival and the experience he brings to this leadership role. His in-depth knowledge of the market and the transport sector will be pivotal in supporting our clients and seeking out new opportunities to continue the growth of our transport business, both in Western Australia and nationally.”

Macaulay has directed multi-disciplinary teams, across several countries, for major transport, master planning and infrastructure projects for both public and private sector clients.

He has had lead roles on major projects including METRONET, MAX Light Rail, Canberra Light Rail, Istanbul Road Tunnel Crossing project, Abu Dhabi Airport masterplan, Edinburgh Tram, Battersea Power Station redevelopment and Project Pinewood masterplan.

His appointment follows Mott MacDonald’s recent announcement of the expansion of its Perth-based team with the acquisition of Merz Consulting, an Australian engineering and energy consultancy business specialising in power distribution, transmission and generation design and project delivery.
