NEURA partners SECO on humanoid robot compute modules

NEURA Robotics has partnered with Italian embedded computing firm SECO to design and manufacture compute modules for its 4NE1 humanoid robot in Europe.

SECO will also work on modules for NEURA’s other cognitive robots, supporting series production in Europe.

The modules integrate Qualcomm Dragonwing processors and form part of NEURA’s distributed compute architecture. Under its Smart Limb concept, NEURA places sensing and compute in the robot’s limbs and joints rather than in a single central unit.

NEURA and SECO will also collect real-world production data as NEURA’s robots are deployed in industrial settings. They plan to use it to develop automation for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Further steps include a NEURA Gym in Italy, which the companies said would be NEURA’s first training hub in Southern Europe.

David Reger, founder and chief executive of NEURA Robotics, said: “Physical AI will not be built by one company alone. It requires an ecosystem across sensing, compute, cloud and industrialisation.”

He added: “This is exactly how I believe Europe should approach Physical AI: combine our industrial knowledge, build together and scale it globally.”

Max Mauri, chief executive of SECO, said: “We are proud to work with NEURA on both the industrialisation of its cognitive robotics platforms and the application of Physical AI to our own industrial environment.”

Nakul Duggal, executive vice president and group general manager for automotive, industrial and embedded IoT, and robotics at Qualcomm Technologies, said: “We are pleased to see SECO join this growing ecosystem and help accelerate the path to reliable, large-scale production.”
