LG is developing a bipedal humanoid robot for public unveiling in the first quarter of 2027, part of a wider AI partnership with NVIDIA.
The robot is built using NVIDIA’s Isaac GR00T open reasoning foundation model, with Jetson Thor providing onboard computing for reasoning and control. It also incorporates safety system NVIDIA Halos for Robotics. LG said the machine will draw on capabilities across LG Electronics, LG Innotek and LG Energy Solution, including actuators, sensors and batteries.
Separately, LG will deploy its wheel-based CLOiD robot at LG Electronics’ washing machine manufacturing plant in Tennessee, USA, this year, for validation in a live production environment. The company said results from that trial would inform wider deployment across manufacturing sites, homes and commercial premises.
The partnership also includes a robot data factory built on LG CNS PhysicalWorks, LG’s robot data platform, for data collection, synthetic data generation and training – work that LG said would also strengthen its own in-house Robot Foundation Model, currently under development.
The robotics work forms part of a broader memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies this month at NVIDIA’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, attended by Kwang Mo Koo, chairman and chief executive of LG Corp, and Jensen Huang, founder and chief executive of NVIDIA. The agreement also covers AI factory infrastructure and vehicle technology.
On infrastructure, LG plans to build an AI factory reference site powered by NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform in the first half of 2027, followed by an 80 MW AI factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, by the first half of 2028, to support development of physical AI and robot foundation models.
On mobility, LG plans to develop a high-performance computing platform for next-generation AI-defined vehicles, built on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion and integrating LG’s in-vehicle infotainment and software, extending its automotive component business into autonomous driving.
Koo said: “As our discussions have moved fast, our tasks and goals in AI Factory and Physical AI have become clear. We will accelerate the spread of AI by building industry-leading references.”
Huang said: “The defining opportunity of physical AI is to give every machine the ability to understand the real world, reason and act safely alongside people, reshaping everyday life from the home and factory floor to the road.
“Building on years of collaboration, LG and NVIDIA are combining LG’s leadership in product engineering and manufacturing with NVIDIA technology to accelerate the next era of robots, AI factories and autonomous vehicles.”
A joint task force of technical and business specialists from both companies will oversee research and development, site validation and commercialisation.
