Arup appointed design partner to airports framework

Manchester Airport Group (MAG) has appointed Arup to its Airfield Infrastructure Framework as design partner to support critical airfield development and improvement projects.

The framework applies across MAG’s three airports – Manchester, London Stanstead, and East Midlands – and span the next five to eight years.

By leveraging Arup’s expertise in airport master planning, the partnership aims to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that will help MAG achieve its capital development goals, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the passenger experience.

As design partner for Lot 1 of the framework, Arup will deliver comprehensive services for a wide range of projects, including airfield improvements, runway resurfacing, aircraft stand development and airfield ground lighting systems.

Thomai Terry, airfield infrastructure business lead at Arup, said: “Manchester Airports Group continues to demonstrate strong leadership in advancing sustainable airfield infrastructure across its airports. The Airfield Infrastructure Framework presents a valuable opportunity for us to support MAG’s investment plans and assist them on their journey to achieving their net-zero targets.”

Alan Newbold, Arup’s aviation business leader, added: “We are proud to be appointed as a key partner and look forward to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that will enhance airfield operations and create a lasting legacy for Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands Airports.”
