Mott MacDonald has bolstered its leadership team in New Zealand with the appointments of Mike O’Halloran, and Matthew Hinton.
The duo are appointed managing director for New Zealand, and transport leader, respectively.
O’Halloran has over 30 years of experience in civil, transportation engineering and planning, delivering complex infrastructure and advising on major projects for New Zealand’s key government agencies.

During this time, he established and expanded the business’ transport team, before being appointed general manager in 2023.
O’Halloran takes over from Peter Taylor who has been with Mott MacDonald since the opening of the New Zealand business in 2012, and held the role of managing director since 2022.
Taylor steps into a client director role, where he will focus on client engagement and strategic market development.
Adrian Jones, regional managing director, said: “Mike has played a key role in many of New Zealand’s city-shaping projects. His strong client and industry relationships, and commitment to delivering sustainable and successful outcomes for our clients and our communities will be invaluable as we continue to grow the business in 2025.”
Matthew Hinton, who moves into the role of transport leader, brings over 20 years of experience in transportation and land use planning across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.
Since joining Mott MacDonald in 2016, he has successfully developed a transport planning offering, building market capability and reputation by contributing to key projects such as the Auckland Airport Landside Development and Wesley West Neighbourhood Development.
O’Halloran said: “Matthew’s ability to deliver innovative and effective solutions has earned him a strong reputation within New Zealand.
“Matthew will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our transport market operations in New Zealand. This includes developing and implementing strategic plans, engaging with clients, and driving business development. His leadership will be vital as we continue to strengthen our relationships with clients and work towards achieving our strategic objectives.”
