Sustainable cement alternatives for the growing construction requirements of the New York metro area will now be delivered via the newly opened Blissville Rail Terminal in Queens.
This new terminal enables Eco Material Technologies, a leading producer, marketer and distributor of supplementary cementitious materials (“SCMs”) and producer of green cement products in North America, to distribute approximately 50,000 tons of harvested fly ash annually from its national network to support local infrastructure projects.
It also marks Eco Material’s first major presence in the city. The terminal will utilise rail transportation, including New York & Atlantic’s (NYA) local infrastructure, to efficiently deliver fly ash and sustainable cementitious materials to one of the USA’s largest construction markets.
According to the company, its materials can replace up to 25% of carbon-intensive cement in standard concrete mixes with its proprietary technologies, allowing for up to 100% replacement in select applications.
Why is the Blissville Terminal important?
“The opening of the Blissville Terminal reinforces our leadership in sustainable innovation and is a major step in our efforts to expand access to low-carbon cement alternatives in all major metro areas,” said Grant Quasha, CEO of Eco Material Technologies. “By strengthening our presence in New York, we can better serve future infrastructure projects with innovative materials that reduce reliance on traditional cement and imported steel slag. Utilising rail transportation streamlines delivery and aligns with our mission to advance sustainable solutions for the construction industry.”
The Blissville Terminal will be operated by Precision Terminal Logistics, LLC (PTL) in partnership with Eco Material. It forms part of Eco Material’s expanding network of facilities designed to supply over 10 million tons of environmentally beneficial materials annually, contributing to the decarbonisation of the North American concrete market. The terminal incorporates Eco Material’s suite of technologies, ensuring all materials meet the highest quality standards while minimising environmental impact and processing costs. Much of the material will be sourced from Eco Materials’ landfill harvesting projects, including its Danville, Pennsylvania, facility.
