To improve site safety, AmcoGiffen and Safety Shield Global have joined forces to launch S.T.R.E.A.M – a first-of-its-kind, AI-powered safety app designed to slash the risk of People Plant Interface (PPI) incidents.
Short for Site Team Reporting and Emergency Accident Management, the groundbreaking safety app uses cutting-edge Human Form Recognition (HFR) technology, configured to specific site layouts and plant operations, to provide an unprecedented layer of digital protection in high-risk environments.
Real-Time Alerts – Real-Time Intervention
The S.T.R.E.A.M app acts as a live safety sentinel, issuing instant alerts to supervisors when activities, behaviours, or processes could lead to a potential PPI event. With a built-in escalation process for project and contract managers, it enables immediate, on-the-ground intervention, reducing the risk of harm before an incident occurs.
Originating from AmcoGiffen’s strategic and behavioural safety objectives, the app was co-developed with Safety Shield Global, an industry leader in AI-driven safety solutions. In rigorous live-site trials, S.T.R.E.A.M achieved an 88% reduction in PPI incidents, prompting AmcoGiffen to mandate its use on all new sites.
An Intelligent Extension to Proven Safety Systems
S.T.R.E.A.M builds on the award-winning Safety Shield Global VUE portal, which uses AI cameras to detect human movement in machine danger zones and trigger audio-visual alarms. While the VUE portal focuses on alerting operators and capturing incident data, the S.T.R.E.A.M app takes safety one step further—delivering that intelligence straight into the hands of supervisors and frontline teams in real time.
Adaptable to any industry where People Plant Interface risks are present—rail, construction, warehousing, agriculture, waste management—the app is fully customisable to match the operational realities of different environments.
Aligning Safety With Behavioural Science
Chris English, SHEQ Director at AmcoGiffen, explained the app’s development: “This innovation aligns directly with our SHEQ/247 vision of ‘Everyone home safe and healthy every day.’ Real-time alerts allow site supervisors to review the environment, work plan, and any at-risk behaviours. Immediate intervention means we can stop work, agree safer methods, and eliminate PPI risk. The results have been staggering.”
For Jonathan Guest, CEO of Safety Shield Global, the project is deeply personal. He founded the company after losing a close friend in a site accident and has dedicated his career to ensuring it never happens again.
“It’s not just a tool—it’s a game-changer. This partnership with AmcoGiffen enables faster, smarter, more responsive safety management. The initial trials speak for themselves: an 88% drop in at-risk behaviours around plant and machinery.”
Raising the Bar for Worksite Safety
By combining behavioural safety expertise with AI-driven insights, the AmcoGiffen–Safety Shield Global partnership is setting a new standard for site protection. The technology reinforces safe behaviours at the very moment they matter most, creating a feedback loop for continual improvement.
The rollout of S.T.R.E.A.M across all AmcoGiffen sites is already underway, with the app set to be made available to other Safety Shield clients later this year—offering a powerful, ready-to-deploy solution to eliminate People Plant Interface risk in workplaces worldwide.
