Accelerating chip design with AI agents

by Simon Foulds

Chipmind, a European deep tech startup, has officially emerged from stealth with $2.5 million in pre-seed funding to revolutionise semiconductor design through AI-driven automation. The company has unveiled Chipmind Agents, a new class of AI agents built to accelerate the chip development process and optimise engineering workflows across the semiconductor industry.

At a time when chip design cycles are becoming longer and more complex, Chipmind’s AI technology aims to shorten time-to-market by up to 40%. The company’s autonomous AI agents can take on real-world chip design and verification tasks, helping engineers save valuable time on repetitive, low-level activities and focus instead on innovation and problem-solving.

Adapting to proprietary workflows

Chipmind Agents are designed to integrate directly into existing Electronic Design Automation (EDA) environments, adapting to each company’s proprietary workflows and datasets. Unlike generic AI tools, these design-aware agents are contextually trained on each customer’s unique design data, enabling them to execute multi-step engineering tasks autonomously while maintaining full human oversight.

By understanding the entire chip design hierarchy, from specification to verification, Chipmind Agents act as collaborative digital co-workers that intelligently optimise and automate complex engineering processes. This holistic approach enables teams to significantly reduce time-to-solve cycles within custom chip design environments, thereby improving productivity and accelerating delivery.

“In the semiconductor industry, deep customisation and data protection are fundamental, but true design awareness is what separates a generic tool from an intelligent partner,” said Harald Kröll, Co-Founder and CEO of Chipmind. “Our ‘design-aware’ agents are engineered to holistically understand the entire chip context, not just the surrounding tools. This deep awareness unlocks productivity, translating directly into significant time savings on complex tasks while integrating seamlessly into existing workflows.”

Bridging legacy systems with AI

Modern chip development relies on deeply embedded EDA workflows that were not originally designed for AI integration. Instead of replacing these critical systems, Chipmind’s technology augments and future-proofs them for intelligent automation. The company’s platform prepares semiconductor development environments for AI agent adoption, allowing engineers to leverage the power of automation without disrupting existing toolchains.

A new era of human–AI collaboration in semiconductors

Chipmind’s launch comes as the global semiconductor industry faces an unprecedented inflection point. The demand for high-performance chips continues to soar, yet traditional design methodologies are reaching their limits. Scaling engineering capacity alone is no longer a sustainable solution.

Meanwhile, a new generation of engineers is increasingly comfortable working with AI-based tools, paving the way for AI-assisted chip design to become a core capability. This convergence of need and readiness signals a paradigm shift: human–AI collaboration as a central driver of semiconductor innovation.

“Anyone who’s spent time in chip development knows how much of the work is repetitive and time-consuming,” said Sandro Belfanti, Co-Founder and CTO of Chipmind. “Throughout my career, I’ve often wished for a solution that could handle those tedious tasks so engineers could focus on solving real challenges. With Chipmind Agents, that vision becomes reality.”

Backed by industry expertise and investor confidence

Chipmind’s $2.5 million pre-seed round was led by Founderful, with participation from prominent semiconductor industry angels. The funding will be used to grow Chipmind’s engineering team, accelerate product development, and expand partnerships with leading chipmakers.

Edouard Treccani, Principal at Founderful, commented: “In a world buzzing with AI, Chipmind stands out as a practical and deeply technical solution to a real industry challenge. The founders’ two decades of experience in chip design and AI have enabled them to build technology that the market genuinely needs.”

With its AI-powered platform, Chipmind is poised to play a pivotal role in reshaping how the semiconductor industry approaches chip design automation, AI in EDA workflows, and intelligent engineering productivity tools, setting the stage for a faster, smarter future in digital chip development.
