AI-driven green building insights at COP30

by Simon Foulds

Delta Electronics shared its latest “AI for Green” initiatives at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, marking the organisation’s 18th consecutive year contributing to the United Nations Climate Change Conference. With climate adaptation taking centre stage at this year’s summit, Delta used its platform to demonstrate how artificial intelligence can support both nature-based solutions and low-carbon development across the built environment and wider ecological systems.

Shan Shan Guo, Vice Chairperson of the Delta Electronics Foundation, emphasised that long-term participation at the climate summit reflects Delta’s commitment to advancing solutions that respond to global climate pressures. She noted that the foundation recently received the First Corporate Ocean Sustainability Contribution Award for its early achievements in coral restoration, further strengthening its contribution to ocean-climate action.

Earlier this year, Delta joined the Coalition for Sustainable AI and partnered with Economist Impact to publish Greening Intelligence: Charting the Future of Sustainable AI. The report sets out principles for improving computing energy efficiency and lowering the carbon footprint associated with AI development. At COP30, these principles are carried forward through practical demonstrations of AI applications that support environmental goals.

Sustainable building evaluation

Delta will introduce the LEED AI Teaching Assistant, a new educational tool designed to support training in sustainable building evaluation. The assistant helps professionals interpret carbon reduction and biodiversity metrics in emerging green building standards. According to Delta, this is the first AI-driven application for green building education in the Chinese-speaking world and forms part of a broader effort to align construction sector stakeholders with global net-zero goals.

Delta will also participate in the Building and Cooling Pavilion, co-hosted by the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction and the Cool Coalition. Here, the organisation will share insights on AI for green building, sustainable cooling strategies, and the digital transformation of the built environment. The focus is on accelerating the shift towards near-zero-emissions and climate-resilient buildings by 2030.

As an official observer to both the UNFCCC and the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Delta Electronics Foundation continues to contribute technical expertise to international climate discussions. Its ongoing work aims to advance digital construction sustainability strategies, expand educational outreach, and strengthen global partnerships to support effective climate adaptation.
