Data Centres as fourth core sector

by Simon Foulds

Winvic Construction has announced data centres as a core sector, responding to UK digital infrastructure demand.

Winvic Construction Ltd, a leading UK main contractor specialising in private and public sector projects, has formally expanded into the data centre construction market. Building on 25 years of experience delivering complex construction and civil engineering schemes, the company will now provide purpose-built, resilient and scalable data centre facilities aligned with growing digital infrastructure requirements.

Data Centres now represent Winvic’s fourth core sector, joining Industrial and Logistics, Multi-room, and Civils and Infrastructure. This strategic move reflects increased demand for secure, high-availability facilities supporting cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and enterprise digital services across the UK.

Leveraging Tier 1 delivery expertise

As a Tier 1 contractor on some of the UK’s most complex industrial and infrastructure developments, Winvic brings established processes for quality, safety, and programme control into the data centre sector. Its track record in large-scale logistics and industrial construction provides a strong foundation for delivering technically demanding, mission-critical environments.

The expansion forms part of Winvic’s wider growth and diversification strategy, applying proven delivery models to data centre construction, including early contractor engagement, integrated design management, and disciplined supply chain coordination.

Specialist capability and technical precision

Danny Cross, Director and Head of Data Centre Delivery at Winvic, highlighted the preparation behind the move. He said: “Over the last eighteen months we have focused on developing our supply chain, upskilling our teams and recruiting new expertise. Working alongside specialist MEP partners, we’re combining civil engineering scale and management with technical precision to deliver data centres designed for uptime, resilience, and scalability.

“This marks a significant milestone in Winvic’s evolution as we expand into one of the fastest-growing construction sectors whilst maintaining our commitment to quality, collaboration, and excellence.”

Alignment with industrial and logistics delivery

Danny Nelson, Managing Director of Industrial, Logistics and Data Centres at Winvic, described the expansion as a logical progression. He said: “Our entry into the Data Centre market is a natural evolution of our capabilities as these developments share similar attributes to buildings we’ve been specialising in for over 25 years.”

He added that Winvic’s “proven delivery of large-scale and complex industrial and logistics projects, rigorous safety and quality standards through our ‘Doing It Right’ culture, and a collaborative approach gives us a strong advantage.”

By establishing data centres as a core sector, Winvic strengthens its position within digital construction, supporting resilient UK infrastructure through disciplined delivery, specialist expertise, and long-term investment.
