Road funding drives housing delivery in Lincolnshire

by Simon Foulds

Government-backed funding for the North Hykeham Relief Road accelerates digital construction delivery, housing growth, and economic connectivity.

Tens of thousands of residents across Lincoln and the wider Lincolnshire will benefit from reduced congestion and improved transport links following confirmation of over £110 million in government funding for the North Hykeham Relief Road.

Confirmed by the Department for Transport on 18 February 2026, the dual carriageway linking the A46 and A15 will unlock delivery of 4,500 new homes and seven hectares of employment land. Construction begins in March, with completion scheduled for May 2029.

Beyond easing congestion in surrounding villages, the scheme includes dedicated walking and cycling infrastructure, aligning with digital construction planning approaches that integrate sustainable transport within major infrastructure projects.

Economic growth supported by smart infrastructure investment

Roads and Buses Minister Simon Lightwood highlighted the broader impact of the project, stating: “Roads are a key link for communities, boosting access to opportunities and jobs, which is why I am delighted to confirm funding for this project.

“We’re putting our money where our mouth is, with a £110 million investment that will mean faster journeys and less congestion. I look forward to seeing how it will transform Lincolnshire moving forward.”

Delivered by Balfour Beatty, the scheme reflects growing adoption of digital construction methods across UK road infrastructure investment, enabling efficient project delivery and long-term asset performance.

Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, Cllr Sean Matthews, said: “This is a huge milestone… This road will offer huge economic benefits when it’s finished… contributing £800 million in economic benefits for the county over the next 60 years.”

Connectivity supporting business and housing delivery

Business leaders also emphasise the importance of improved connectivity. Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, noted: “This project will play a vital role in improving connectivity, reducing congestion and supporting long-term growth, benefiting local businesses and attracting inward investment.”

The project illustrates how digital construction sector practices support housing-led infrastructure, modern transport planning, and regional economic growth across the UK.

Backed by digital construction methods, this Lincolnshire infrastructure investment will support housing delivery, business expansion, skilled employment, and sustainable transport connectivity for communities across decades ahead locally.
