Partnership strengthens digital innovation

The UK strengthens global AI leadership through strategic collaboration with India at a landmark Delhi showcase.

The UK’s position as a global leader in artificial intelligence was reinforced at a high-profile reception hosted by the British High Commission in Delhi. The event, titled Shaping Tomorrow, brought together AI experts, technology companies, policymakers, and investors to demonstrate the growing strength of the UK–India technology partnership and its implications for the digital construction sector.

AI collaboration

The reception aligned with the AI Impact Summit 2026, positioning artificial intelligence as a key enabler across sectors, including digital construction, infrastructure delivery, and smart cities. With both countries investing heavily in AI-led transformation, the collaboration is increasingly relevant for construction professionals adopting digital workflows, predictive analytics, and automation technologies.

Delegates experienced a range of AI-led innovations through live demonstrations, interactive installations, and technical showcases. Companies including Nscale, Faculty AI, Singular Intelligence, and Holistic AI presented solutions applicable to infrastructure planning, risk management, and data-driven decision-making.

Leadership perspectives

A keynote discussion between David Lammy and Rishi Sunak addressed the geopolitical dimensions of AI governance. The conversation highlighted the importance of regulatory alignment, ethical AI deployment, and cross-border collaboration; critical considerations for digital construction ecosystems relying on interoperable data and global supply chains.

AI Minister Kanishka Narayan also addressed the audience, reflecting on engagements across Bengaluru and Delhi. He introduced an OpenUK documentary focused on AI transparency and open technologies, reinforcing the role of openness in scaling innovation across industries, including the built environment.

Economic impact of AI

The UK remains a dominant force in artificial intelligence, with a market valued at over £72 billion and more than 5,800 AI companies. As the third-largest AI economy globally, it offers significant opportunities for digital construction firms seeking to integrate AI into design, project delivery, and asset management.

Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India, emphasised the strategic importance of collaboration: “There is a huge opportunity in the UK and India technology and innovation partnership, which is why it is a central pillar of our shared Vision 2035.”

She added that international cooperation is essential to ensure responsible AI development capable of delivering secure, sustainable, and scalable outcomes across regions, from urban regeneration in the UK to infrastructure expansion in India.

AI adoption and inclusive growth across sectors

The financial sector perspective further underscored AI’s broader economic relevance. Hitendra Dave, CEO, HSBC India, highlighted AI’s potential to reshape systems at scale: “AI offers India a unique opportunity to take the lead in creating a more inclusive and innovative financial ecosystem.”

He stressed that embedding transparency, accountability, and data-driven insights can improve decision-making, principles equally applicable to digital construction, where AI supports lifecycle optimisation, cost forecasting, and sustainability outcomes.

Strengthening the UK–India digital ecosystem

The event, hosted at Bharat Mandapam, attracted over a thousand attendees and was supported by organisations including HSBC India and Baker McKenzie. A dedicated showcase also outlined the benefits of the UK–India Free Trade Agreement, particularly for technology transfer, infrastructure investment, and digital supply chain integration.

The UK–India AI partnership establishes a scalable framework for digital construction innovation, combining governance, investment, and technical expertise to accelerate infrastructure delivery, sustainability outcomes, and long-term economic growth globally.
