United Infrastructure has secured a major Cadent Gas contract at Bromley-By-Bow Gasworks, London.
United Infrastructure has been appointed by Cadent Gas to deliver a significant redevelopment package at Bromley-By-Bow Gasworks, one of the capital’s most historically significant industrial sites. The project reinforces United Infrastructure’s role in delivering complex critical infrastructure upgrades across the UK energy sector.
Bromley-By-Bow Gasworks is home to the UK’s largest collection of Grade II listed gasholders and forms a central element of the wider Bromley-By-Bow masterplan. The regeneration programme seeks to preserve industrial heritage assets while enabling residential development, public realm improvements and long-term environmental enhancement.
United Infrastructure commenced the 15-month programme in November 2025, with early-phase works including vegetation clearance, site establishment and installation of CDM-compliant welfare facilities in line with UK construction regulations. Following isolation from the operational gas network, works will progress to demolition of redundant structures and rationalisation of existing pipework to prepare the site for redevelopment.
Enabling the Bromley-By-Bow masterplan
A core component of the contract involves the full rebuild of the gas facility on a reduced footprint on adjacent land. United Infrastructure will oversee civil engineering works, mechanical installations and electrical infrastructure delivery, ensuring integration with Cadent’s wider gas distribution network.
The modernised gas infrastructure is designed to deliver quieter pipework, improved operational efficiency and enhanced sustainability performance. Rationalising the existing gas assets will unlock land for development and improve the site’s interface with the surrounding community.
The enabling works are fundamental to the wider masterplan, which will deliver more than 2,150 new homes across 13 residential buildings, including homes located within restored gasholder frames. The completed development will introduce parkland, biodiverse habitats and public open space within a regenerated urban setting.
Conor Bray, Managing Director, Energy at United Infrastructure, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed on this project, which reflects the continued trust Cadent places in United Infrastructure and our teams. Bromley-By-Bow is a complex and historically important site, and we are proud to be supporting its transformation. By working closely with Cadent, we are helping to modernise critical infrastructure while enabling the delivery of new homes and high-quality public spaces for the local community.”
This contract strengthens United Infrastructure’s strategic partnership with Cadent and demonstrates its capability in infrastructure redevelopment, gas network rationalisation and urban regeneration delivery across the UK energy infrastructure sector.
