Bouygues UK to build Jersey's new acute hospital

Bouygues UK has signed the main works contract for Jersey’s Overdale Acute Hospital, becoming lead contractor on the government of Jersey’s New Healthcare Facilities Programme.

The appointment follows Bouygues UK’s selection as preferred tenderer in November 2025, after which the company worked with the New Healthcare Facilities Programme (NHFP) team to finalise commercial terms and prepare for construction to begin.

The Overdale Acute Hospital will be a purpose-built facility with an internal gross floor area of 47,500m2, featuring an emergency department, six operating theatres, inpatient beds, critical care beds and a dedicated women’s and children’s centre.

As lead contractor, Bouygues UK will oversee delivery of the project, drawing on its healthcare construction experience and previous work managing the logistical challenges of Jersey’s island location.

Philippe Bernard, Bouygues UK’s chair and chief executive, said: “We are proud to have reached this significant milestone and excited to deliver this transformational project for Jersey. The partnership with the government of Jersey and the NHFP team to reach this point has been extremely collaborative and productive.

“[W]e look forward to working together to deliver exceptional value, support local employment and supply chain partners, and create lasting social benefits for the community throughout construction and beyond. As lead contractor, we are committed to bringing our healthcare expertise and project management capabilities to ensure the successful delivery of this vital facility for Jersey.”

The NHFP said: “We are pleased to have reached this significant milestone in concluding the procurement process for the Acute Hospital and signing the Main Works Contract with Bouygues UK. We look forward to building on the good progress made so far and continuing our collaboration with Bouygues UK to deliver this important health facility for Islanders.”
