Broadgate to deliver 450-metre tower in Nigerian smart city scheme

London-based Broadgate Developments Group Ltd has been appointed development and construction management advisor on City Walk Abuja, a landmark smart city in Nigeria.

The appointment was confirmed by developer Link Developments this month, as part of the wider launch of the scheme.

City Walk Abuja will sit on the corridor connecting the capital’s Central Business District with Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, within a government-designated Free Trade Zone. The masterplan spans more than 200 hectares and will combine commercial, residential, hospitality, leisure, cultural, and civic districts.

The scheme’s two anchor structures will be a 450-metre tower – billed as Africa’s tallest – and an international arena with capacity for more than 16,000 people. The masterplan is built around a natural ravine, which will form the development’s “ecological spine”, incorporating landscaped public space, biodiversity corridors, and water management infrastructure.

The masterplan has been designed by Benoy, the international design studio founded in 1947 in Newark, Nottinghamshire, which now operates design hubs in London and Shanghai alongside teams in Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Broadgate will provide executive development leadership, technical governance, and programme oversight throughout delivery of the scheme.

Peter Young, chief executive of Broadgate Developments Group Ltd, said: “City Walk Abuja represents the type of transformational development where vision, technical excellence, and disciplined execution must work together seamlessly.”

He added: “We look forward to working alongside Link, Benoy, and the wider professional team to help deliver a destination that has the potential to establish a new benchmark for integrated urban development in Africa.”

Alex Arkaah, chief development officer and group technical director at Broadgate Developments Group Ltd, said: “The future of every great city is shaped long before its skyline emerges. City Walk Abuja presents a rare opportunity to bring together visionary ambition, international expertise, and engineering excellence to create a destination designed for long-term value.”

He added: “The greatest developments are defined not only by their scale, but by the confidence they create, the opportunities they unlock, and the legacy they leave for future generations.”

Broadgate’s management team has previously worked on Jabi Lake Mall and Heritage Place in Nigeria, One Airport Square in Ghana, and the Douala Airport Business Park in Cameroon. The company also delivered the retail and leisure mall on the New Cairo City Masterplan, a 426,000 sq. metre single construction build described as the largest of its kind in Africa.
