CIC unveils strategic Corporate Plan for 2025–2030

by Simon Foulds

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has announced its new Corporate Plan for 2025–2030, a comprehensive five-year strategy that positions CIC as the authoritative voice for the UK’s construction and built environment sector.

The plan sets out a clear framework for collaboration, advocacy, and leadership at a time when the industry faces profound challenges and opportunities, from climate resilience and digital transformation to skills development and regulatory change.

By outlining four key strategic pillars—Agility, Influencing and Advocacy, Collaboration on Key Policy Areas, and Effective Consultation and Communication—the CIC aims to create a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive built environment.

The vision behind CIC’s Corporate Plan 2025–2030

The Corporate Plan has been developed to strengthen CIC’s role as a unifying voice for construction professionals. It reflects the organisation’s mission to:

  • Represent the interests of professional bodies, research organisations, and institutions across the built environment.
  • Drive forward positive change on pressing issues such as safety, sustainability, and inclusivity.
  • Provide transparent governance and measurable outcomes through annual business plans.

According to Ian Brant, Chair of CIC, “This plan is a call to action for the industry to help shape a safer, more sustainable, and inclusive built environment.”

Four strategic pillars shaping the future of construction

At the heart of the Construction Industry Council Corporate Plan 2025–2030 are four strategic priorities designed to guide action across the sector.

1. Agility

The construction industry must respond quickly to technological innovation, regulatory change, and market volatility. CIC’s plan highlights agility as a core strength, ensuring the organisation remains responsive to emerging challenges, from climate adaptation to digital construction.

2. Influencing and Advocacy

As the collective voice for built environment professions, CIC will continue to influence government policy and industry regulation. By strengthening advocacy, the Council seeks to amplify members’ perspectives on critical issues such as net zero targets, building safety, and skills development.

3. Collaboration on Key Policy Areas

CIC emphasises cross-industry collaboration to address shared challenges, including:

  • The transition to net zero and sustainable construction practices.
  • The digitalisation of construction and adoption of BIM and data-driven decision-making.
  • Building safety, compliance, and resilience in the face of climate change.
  • Workforce inclusivity, equality, diversity, and skills training.

4. Effective Consultation and Communication

To maintain transparency and accountability, CIC will prioritise open dialogue with stakeholders. Regular consultation processes and accessible communication channels will underpin all activity, ensuring measurable progress is achieved and reported.

Redefining purpose and ambition

The CIC Corporate Plan 2025–2030 introduces a redefined purpose: to unite and empower built environment professions to drive meaningful change. This ambition aligns with CIC’s long-standing legacy of championing the sector, while setting a future-focused agenda.

Graham Watts OBE, Chief Executive of CIC, noted, “CIC has championed the built environment professions for over 35 years, and this Corporate Plan continues that legacy with a clear, forward-looking strategy.”

Why the CIC Corporate Plan matters for the construction industry

The construction industry is at a pivotal moment, facing increasing pressure to deliver safer, greener, and smarter infrastructure. CIC’s Corporate Plan provides a roadmap to:

  • Shape a resilient and future-ready industry that can respond to global challenges.
  • Support professionals and member organisations with clear governance and measurable outcomes.
  • Champion safety, sustainability, and inclusivity as the foundations of a thriving built environment.
  • Foster innovation and collaboration across disciplines and sectors.

The Construction Industry Council Corporate Plan 2025–2030 marks an important milestone for the UK’s built environment sector. By focusing on agility, advocacy, collaboration, and communication, CIC sets a clear direction for the next five years. This strategy not only reinforces CIC’s role as the unified voice of the industry but also ensures that construction professionals are equipped to deliver a safer, more sustainable, and inclusive future.
