Driving digital excellence for neurodivergent professionals

by Simon Foulds

Laing O’Rourke has formalised a framework agreement with Australian Spatial Analytics (ASA), marking a development in the organisation’s approach to digital delivery and socially responsible supply chain partnerships. The collaboration brings together Laing O’Rourke’s Geographic Information System (GIS) capability with ASA’s specialist geospatial and digital engineering services, delivered by a workforce of young neurodivergent professionals.

ASA, founded in 2020, operates as a not-for-profit focused on building sustained careers for neurodivergent adults. The organisation now employs more than 220 specialists, the majority of whom are autistic, and is recognised for its commitment to data sovereignty and ethical digital practices. Its teams support infrastructure and digital construction projects across Australia through geospatial analysis, digital engineering support, and data processing services.

Strengthening digital delivery

Commenting on the partnership, ASA CEO Geoff Smith said the agreement demonstrates how diversity strengthens digital delivery. He noted that ASA’s analysts gain structured on-the-job training through real project work while contributing advanced geospatial and digital engineering outcomes for clients. The partnership provides ASA with a platform to continue developing capability while contributing to wider sector resilience.

Spatial data

GIS remains central to Laing O’Rourke’s digital construction strategy, supporting projects with spatial data that improves planning, reduces uncertainty, and enables informed decision-making. The GIS team integrates geospatial intelligence into design, planning, and operational workflows, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s broader digital systems. Services include real-time mapping, automation, and high-accuracy GPS data capture that reduces survey costs and streamlines core project processes. The team also develops interactive dashboards and web mapping tools that enhance collaboration across project stakeholders.

Technical capability

Laura Murphy, GIS Principal at Laing O’Rourke, said the agreement strengthens technical capability while aligning with the organisation’s commitment to innovation and inclusion. She highlighted that embedding ASA within the supply chain supports a model where digital delivery contributes both project value and social impact.

This partnership brings new depth to Laing O’Rourke’s digital construction offering, integrating specialist geospatial support with a focus on inclusive employment. By combining GIS expertise with ASA’s data-driven capability, the framework agreement supports reliable digital workflows, enhances project confidence, and contributes to a sector-wide shift towards ethical and socially responsible digital engineering.
