A building materials company intends to make quite an impact during its debut at Clerkenwell Design Week, with an artwork created from its own low-carbon cement.
Heidelberg Materials UK has commissioned London-based sculptor, Ashley Cluer to create the installation, made from evoZero, said to be the world’s first near-zero carbon captured cement.
Titled, aptly enough, It’s a Conversation Starter, the sculpture will form a centrepiece of its showroom programme during its evoHub exhibition.

The company is aiming to showcase the use of concrete as a “versatile material of choice” for architectural design, as well as highlight the role of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in revolutionising the manufacture of cement.
Also on show will be a portion of a large-scale modular 3D-printed installation, currently on its way to the UK from Italy, where the full structure was showcased at Milan Design Week.
The structure is made of 3D-printed concrete, using Heidelberg’s evoZero cement, as plastic and wood. This will be located at the event’s Techspace.
The company is opening the doors to its evoHub at Techspace on Goswell Road, EC1 for the duration of the three-day festival between 19 to 21 May 2026.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the company’s CCS projects and develop their knowledge and expertise in sustainable construction at dedicated seminars and CPD sessions throughout the festival.
Andy Murphy, UK group commercial director at Heidelberg Materials UK, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate lower carbon materials to architects, designers and specifiers, and we look forward to welcoming those across the design sector to our evoHub during Clerkenwell Design Week.”
