The company behind a pioneering submersible platform for use in supporting offshore operations has earned a crucial endorsement, recognising it as a potentially transformative technology.
Tugdock has been awarded the prestigious ‘Statement of Feasibility’ from independent energy expert and assurance provider, DNV, for its Tugdock Submersible Platform (TSP).
The technology is considered to have applications across multiple markets, including floating offshore wind, vessel dry-docking, and decommissioning. The TSP is a pinned, open steel-frame that uses the company’s patented vertical air buoyancy cylinders.
The system is road transportable and once assembled on site serves as a modular dry dock of any width or length combination (in five metres increments) up to 120m x 120m. It can be used for lifting and launching heavy marine structures or vessels and as a modular workstation.
Aseem Dhingra, floating structures and moorings service manager at DNV (UK & I), said: “We are delighted to issue our ‘Statement of Feasibility’ following a rigorous evaluation process that confirms that innovations and challenges associated with the TSP concept have been identified, and the qualification activities have been well defined to demonstrate that the technology is feasible, and thereby suited for further development and qualification.
“Tugdock have developed a comprehensive qualification plan that has been endorsed by DNV and will facilitate the next steps of qualification. This recognition provides stakeholders with confidence that fulfilment of technology’s intended deployment and operational performance in diverse scenarios is achievable.”
Matt Ingram, chief technology officer at Tugdock, said: “This endorsement from DNV is a testament to the rigorous engineering and testing behind the TSP. The TSP’s modularity and flexibility open up a world of possibilities, from supporting 20MW+ floating wind turbines weighing up to 20,000 tonnes to facilitating complex offshore oil platform decommissioning projects and even aerospace operations. We are excited to move onto the next stage of development in our plans.”
Lucas Lowe-Houghton, chief revenue officer at Tugdock, added: “We are already collaborating with clients across the globe and are excited to be working toward a planned deployment of the TSP in 2025.
“As part of our growth strategy, we are actively exploring opportunities to establish an operational base in the US, Wales and Scotland, in addition to our base in England. This will allow us to better serve key markets, support our clients more effectively, and strengthen our global presence.”
