In a landmark move towards a greener digital economy, Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (PJSC), has awarded a Green Certificate to United Arab Bank (UAB). The recognition celebrates UAB’s commitment to sustainable IT practices, achieved through the co-location of its IT infrastructure at Moro Hub’s Green Data Centre, one of the region’s most advanced facilities powered by renewable energy.
The certificate was presented by Mohammad Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub, to Padmanabhan SV, Chief Information Officer of United Arab Bank, during WETEX 2025, held from 30 September to 2 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Pioneering sustainability in digital infrastructure
Moro Hub’s Green Data Centre represents a new benchmark in sustainable digital transformation. Designed to deliver energy-efficient, low-carbon IT services, the facility supports organisations seeking to meet ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) objectives while maintaining operational resilience and high data security standards.
“United Arab Bank’s decision to co-locate its IT operations at Moro Hub’s Green Cloud demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and corporate responsibility. We are proud to support UAB in achieving its environmental goals while providing a secure, reliable, and low-carbon digital infrastructure,” said Mohammad Bin Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of Moro Hub.
This collaboration underscores the strategic alignment between the UAE’s financial and digital sectors in driving national sustainability objectives, particularly the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative and the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge.
Green data centres: powering the future of sustainable IT
The awarding of the Green Certificate reflects UAB’s measurable carbon footprint reduction through Moro Hub’s renewable-powered infrastructure. By leveraging green cloud computing, energy-efficient cooling technologies, and smart power management systems, the data centre minimises environmental impact while maximising performance.
The partnership highlights how green data centres are becoming essential enablers of sustainable IT ecosystems. As global demand for data grows exponentially, the ICT sector’s energy consumption is under increasing scrutiny. Moro Hub’s renewable-powered model offers a scalable solution that allows organisations to decarbonise IT operations, align with global sustainability standards, and support corporate climate strategies.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations. Partnering with Moro Hub allows us to reduce our carbon footprint significantly while maintaining the highest standards of IT performance and security. This Green Certificate is a testament to our ongoing commitment to a greener future,” said Padmanabhan SV, Chief Information Officer, United Arab Bank.
Aligning with global and national climate goals
The collaboration between Moro Hub and UAB exemplifies how digital innovation and environmental responsibility can advance hand in hand. It supports the UAE’s Year of Sustainability agenda, reinforcing the nation’s role as a global leader in climate innovation and green digital transformation.
By co-locating IT operations within Moro Hub’s solar-powered data centre, UAB is actively contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimising energy consumption. The initiative also demonstrates alignment with international environmental frameworks, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
Ensuring accountability through continuous monitoring
The Green Certificate is more than symbolic, it represents quantifiable environmental impact verified through continuous monitoring and transparent reporting. Moro Hub will continue to provide detailed assessments of UAB’s energy usage, carbon reduction metrics, and sustainability performance, ensuring alignment with global reporting standards such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14001.
This ongoing collaboration sets a powerful precedent for how financial institutions in the UAE and across the region can integrate green IT strategies to drive sustainable digital transformation.
A model for the future of sustainable banking and IT
As banks and enterprises face increasing pressure to meet ESG commitments, partnerships like that between Moro Hub and United Arab Bank are shaping the future of sustainable banking and eco-efficient digital infrastructure. By adopting green cloud solutions, organisations can achieve significant carbon emission reductions, enhance operational resilience, and contribute to the global transition toward a net-zero economy.
Through this collaboration, UAB not only enhances its sustainability credentials but also sets a benchmark for responsible digital innovation in the Middle East’s financial sector.
